Staten Island to Bridgeport, CT
On Saturday, we left our mooring at Great Kills Harbor and motored north to the Statue of Liberty. There was alot to see going through NYC- passed Manhattan island and up the East River through Hell Gate. We were able to sail after Hell Gate with a nice south wind. Anchored at City Island- a very scenic part of the Bronx with a history of ship building. We took a walk the next morning through City Island, then left for a 20 mile sail to Sheffield Harbor near South Norwalk, CT. On Monday, we sailed to Bridgeport, CT and took a slip on an island dock at Captain's Cove Seaport. Leiby needs to go home for this week to finish up some work- a big thank you to Tom for driving all the way here to provide a ride home for him, and to Glen and Robin for letting him stay at there place! Pictured: Leiby giving a ride to Ruefus in our dinghy, "Skippy"; the Manhattan skyline; Ruefus and the Statue of Liberty; and Darlene on a pillar platform at Sheffield Harbor.

Greenpoint to Staten Island
We departed Greenpoint Landing on Friday 6/17/11 with a south wind. Headed north up the bay and anchored on the Bohemia River. We continued north the next day through the C&D canal, then southeast down the Delaware River into the Delaware Bay. Our anchorage was slightly rough on the northeast side of the Delaware River. Entered Cape May from the west through the Cape May canal- lots of motor boat traffic. Anchored in Cape May by the Coast Guard station. We spent two nights in Cape May- used the i-phone to navigate through the marshes in the dingy to the center of Cape May. We left Cape May on Tuesday morning through the ocean cut and headed north along the Jersey coast with a southwest wind. Sailed 16 hours with the genoa poled out until the wind died in the early morning. Motorsailed the rest of the way to Sandy Hook. The radar proved to be very useful with all the ship traffic converging on New York Harbor in the dark night. Anchored at Great Kills Harbor on Staten Island, NY. We soon found out that since 9/11 transient boaters are not welcome to step ashore unless they are patrons of a marina so, because of this and heavy fog, we were stuck on the boat for two nights. We were hoping to leave for the East River this morning but, due to heavy fog and bad weather again, we decided to get a mooring at the Richmond County Yacht Club so we could come ashore legally. We are currently sharing a "hero" (hoagie) at an internet deli. Pictured: proof that the crew of Trilogy all made it to Cape May and Darlene in the dinghy by our Cape May anchorage.

The Final Transition
We've been busy the last 3 weeks- finalizing the lease on the house, attending our nephew's wedding in Iowa (Congratulations Matt and Mandy!) and doing final projects on the boat (installing radar and completing other needs which require shore power) in preparation for our trip. Leiby also helped his sailing mentor, Captain Keith with various jobs for a couple of days aboard his boat, Majjik III.
